Twitter Lead Generation Card: Full Setup Tutorial

UPDATE: MailChimp have slightly updated their integration page when you integrate the Twitter Lead generation Card. Read Emma O'Halloran comment at the bottom of the page to apply this change (this needs to be applied at around 06:28 of the video tutorial)

Last week I noticed other Twitter accounts using a cool lead generation feature on Twitter called a Twitter Lead Generation Card.

A Twitter Lead Generation Card allows you to create an interactive Tweet which automatically captures Twitter user's email, name and Twitter handle when they hit your custom call to action (download/sign up/subscribe etc).

Here’s some examples of Twitter Lead Generation Card‘s that I've created…

Note: To view the Twitter Lead Generation Cards in full ensure you are logged into Twitter when clicking on them.

Why should you use Twitter Lead Generation cards?

Do you want the simple answer? They work, they take 10 minutes to set up and they are completely FREE!

They’re Free…that’s right…I said the F-word

8 days ago I set up 3 Twitter Lead Generation Cards linked to my MailChimp email sign up and I have gained 73 New Subscribers through these Twitter cards!

73 New subscribers in 8 days can’t be bad right? The MailChimp print screen below shows the new email list sign ups (I've scrubbed out names and emails for confidentiality).

If you're a visual learner, I've created a handy video tutorial below which will walk you step by step through the whole process. If you prefer reading, I've written step by step instructions below the video.
Unlock and watch the full step by step tutorial below to learn exactly how to setup and use a Twitter Lead Generation Card.

Step 1: Login to Twitter

Step 2: Go to Twitter Ads

Twitter Ads can be found by clicking your small image icon at the top of the screen and selecting "Twitter Ads" from the drop down menu.

Note: you have to sign up for a Twitter Advertising account in order for the “Twitter Ads” selection to appear in the drop down menu of your account settings. You can do that for free via this link:

Step 3: Click on the "Creatives" tab and select "Cards"

This can be found in the top Nav Menu in the Twitter Ads page.

Step 4: Click "Create your first Lead Generation Cards"

– Bonus: You Can have an unlimited number of cards!
Here's what the form looks like:
You'll need to make sure you have the link to your Website's privacy policy handy (if you don’t have a Privacy Policy you can create one for free with this great website: ).

Plus you'll need to have an alternative URL where end-users can visit a page to find out more about you and/or your offer. Other than that, all the dimensions you need are right there on the page. Very easy.

Note: If you would like to connect the Twitter Lead Generation card to MailChimp there are a couple of extra steps. These steps are outlined clearly at 4:54 in the video tutorial I have created for you above.

Step 5: Once your card is set up, click the "Cards" tab.

Step 6: Click the blue Compose Tweet icon

This can be found next to the Twitter Card.

Step 7: Compose your Tweet

Leave the default delivery setting set to Standard. Compose your tweet & Click "Tweet"!
Have you tried creating a Lead Generation twitter Card? If so post a link in the comments below and I'll sign up :) What are your thoughts on the strategy outlined in the video tutorial? Do you have anything to add? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below also.
